What Are Dental Implants?
Unlike traditional reconstructive options, dental implants replicate both the crown (the white portion that shows in your smile) and the root (the portion hidden under the gum tissue) of a natural tooth. This comprehensive structure supports both your oral health and your overall quality of life, because without a functioning tooth root, the jawbone can deteriorate, leading to higher risks of additional tooth loss. The implant itself is a titanium post that functions as the “root,” and our team will design a custom, all-ceramic dental crown or other restoration to attach on top for a beautifully permanent result.
The Dental Implant Process
Dental implants should be considered a worthwhile investment, and the process will be split up over multiple appointments:
- Consultation: Your first visit will be an in-depth consultation, where our team will speak with you about the dental implant treatment process and examine your mouth to let you know whether you’re a good candidate. If you are, we’ll create a custom-tailored treatment plan and timeline that we’ll walk you through before scheduling the next step in your journey.
- Dental Implant Placement: After our dentists have determined that you’re the right candidate for the procedure, we’ll begin by surgically inserting the implants into the jawbone. Instead of having to refer you to an outside specialist, we’re proud to offer this advanced service right here in-house so that you can remain with a dental team you know and trust.
- Healing: After the implants have been successfully placed, a period of healing commences, during which the natural bone and tissue will gradually fuse with the implant through a process known as osseointegration. This creates a strong and sturdy foundation that will be able to support custom restorations that look just like your natural teeth.
- Restoration: Once the final restoration is crafted, we’ll have you come back into our office to secure it to your abutments and restore your smile.
Who Can Dental Implants Help?
Multiple options are available for implant restoration, and our recommendation will depend on several important factors, including the number of teeth that need to be recreated, the desired positioning of the teeth, the patient’s budget and personal preference, and more. They include:
Missing One Tooth
These crowns are crafted from high-quality, tooth-colored materials, and they’re designed to successfully cover an individual implant without negatively affecting the surrounding healthy dental structure.
Missing Multiple Teeth
If multiple teeth in a row are missing, an implant bridge could be the perfect way to recreate healthy, strong teeth in a more cost-effective fashion than individual crowns. These custom-made bridges or dentures will be permanently fixed in place for a seamlessly lifelike result.
Missing All Teeth
If you prefer the removability of traditional dentures, an overdenture is the option for you. These prosthetics combine age-old convenience with the valuable health benefits of placed implants.
All-on-X Dental Implants
In addition to traditional implants, our dentists at Windermere Dentistry are happy to also offer All-on-X implant dentures as an effective alternative for patients who’ve lost an entire arch of natural teeth. In order to successfully support the placement of implants, patients will need an adequate amount of healthy jawbone structure; without it, time-consuming grafting procedures may be required before you can start on the road towards the recompleted smile you deserve.
Thankfully, All-on-X doesn’t require this additional service. Instead, our team will strategically place between four and six dental implants within the mouth at precise angles to successfully support an implant denture. This new prosthetic can be placed immediately following the surgery, with a permanent model replacing it some time later after the mouth has fully healed.

Benefits of Dental Implants
Many experts consider these replacement teeth the ideal way to rebuild after tooth loss because of their unique advantages. Unlike dentures and bridges, they are embedded in your jawbone, which typically makes them stronger and longer-lasting than the alternatives.

Day-to-Day Benefits
You rely on two complete arches of teeth to eat, speak, and smile confidently. Thankfully, dental implants are firmly rooted in place, allowing patients to enjoy the following daily benefits:
- Improved bite force. This is the only treatment that can return up to 80% or more of your original chewing power, so you can enjoy more of your favorite foods.
- Enhanced enunciation. You can overcome changes to your speech patterns, such as a lisp or slur, with these reliable restorations in place to communicate more clearly with others.
- Boosted confidence. They’re made from resilient, lifelike materials that are customized to match your smile for seamless results that help enhance your appearance.
Health Benefits
Not only are these restorations customized to look and function as lifelike as possible, but they can also help improve your oral and overall health in the following ways:
- Eat a more wholesome diet. You can eat a wider variety of healthy ingredients to support your system without worrying that your teeth will become destabilized or dislodged.
- Preserve your jawbone. Only implants are placed in your jaw to function more like the roots of teeth, helping prevent the degeneration that usually occurs after tooth loss.
- Enjoy better dental health. It’s often easier to brush and floss with dental implants than other restorations, helping prevent cavities, gum disease, and other oral concerns.
Long-Term Benefits
These prosthetics often last longer than the alternatives, allowing patients to enjoy different long-term advantages, such as:
- Resilient materials. The biocompatible rod placed in your jaw fuses with the bone to become a more permanent part of your mouth and can last 25+ years when cared for correctly.
- Maintain a younger visage. Protecting your jawbone supports your facial structure, helping to avoid sunken cheeks and additional facial wrinkles.
- Save money over time. There’s no need to invest in additional products or accessories, like cleaners, soaking solutions, special brushes, or adhesives. Plus, these teeth are unlikely to fall out, avoiding the need for costly repairs or replacements over the years.
