If you have noticed smiles around you improving without rhyme or reason — like the suddenly beautiful grins of your colleagues’ or casual acquaintances — we may know their secret. Invisalign in Windermere is clear braces for adults, and it offers a subtle solution for misaligned teeth. From gapped to crowded or otherwise misaligned teeth, Invisalign fixes it all! Dr. Matthew McKissock and Dr. Rupal Thakkar are pleased to offer this option at Windermere Dentistry. Keep reading to learn more about how clear braces work.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners to gradually shift misaligned teeth into the proper position. By placing focused pressure on different areas of the bite throughout the treatment, the Invisalign aligners correct the most common orthodontic issues, including:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Overbite (top teeth reach too far over bottom)
  • Underbite (bottom teeth cover top)
  • Crossbite (top and bottom teeth do not fit together properly)

We create your aligners according to your unique dentition by taking a digital scan of your teeth. Our office then sends this information to the Invisalign lab, where your aligners are created from clear polyurethane plastic. Once your treatment kit has been created, you wear each aligner for 20 to 22 hours each day, removing them to eat, drink, and to brush and floss your teeth. Over the course of about one year, on average, your teeth are repositioned into the proper alignment.

Just like with traditional braces, you will need to wear a retainer following Invisalign to keep your teeth in the right position for years to come. Vivera retainers are clear and as subtle as your initial Invisalign trays.

Multiple Benefits of Invisalign

Compared to traditional braces, Invisalign offers significant ease, convenience, and comfort for busy adults. First and foremost, it’s practically invisible — so you can continue to speak and smile with total confidence throughout your treatment. Smooth plastic is also unlikely to rub blisters into the soft oral tissues, and removable trays allow you to continue to eat what you like throughout the treatment, without worry of a popped off bracket or wire. Because Invisalign is a largely self-directed treatment, you don’t have to visit the dentist as often as is necessary with traditional braces. Just come into our office every six weeks and we’ll check in and make sure everything is moving along just like it should — and then send you back on your way!

Comparing Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces

  • Invisalign is removable, so you can eat what you like
  • Dental hygiene stays strong with removable aligners
  • Take Invisalign out before important meetings or events
  • Invisalign is practically invisible
  • Fewer office visits required with Invisalign
  • No discomfort associated with smooth plastic aligners
  • Most patients are eligible candidates for Invisalign!
