1. A Variety of Dental Problems<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s probably no surprise to learn that discomfort on one side of your jaw can often be linked to dental issues. Sometimes the problem may be a wisdom tooth that is unable to fully erupt. In other cases, you may be suffering from advanced tooth decay or gum disease. The issue could even be a consequence of a misaligned bite.<\/p>\n

If you schedule an appointment with your dentist, they can identify the oral health problem that is causing your one-sided jaw pain. Once they do, they can review your options for treatment and help you figure out the best way to achieve the lasting relief that you deserve.<\/p>\n

2. A TMJ Disorder<\/h2>\n

Your lower jaw is connected to the rest of the skull thanks to the temporomandibular joints (TMJs) that are located just in front of your ears. These joints are what allow you to make the necessary jaw movements for eating and speaking. However, if one of these joints becomes damaged in some way, the result is a TMJ disorder, which can be very painful.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s more than one possible cause for a TMJ disorder. Your dentist can take a closer look at the affected side of your jaw to narrow down the underlying issue before helping you find an appropriate form of treatment.<\/p>\n

3. Sinusitis<\/h2>\n

The maxillary sinuses are located just behind your cheeks. Thus, if they become inflamed due to sinusitis (which may happen as a result of allergies, certain medical conditions, or a cold), you may notice discomfort on at least one side of your jaw.<\/p>\n

Sinusitis usually resolves itself within a certain amount of time. That said, you should speak to your doctor if it persists for more than 10 days.<\/p>\n

4. Heart Attack<\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re experiencing pain in the left side of your jaw, it could be a warning sign of a heart attack. Other possible symptoms include pain in your chest, difficulty breathing, and nausea. Needless to say, it\u2019s best to call the emergency room right away if you have any reason to think that a heart attack is imminent.<\/p>\n

5. A Rare Health Condition<\/h2>\n

Occasionally, one-sided jaw pain can be the result of unusual pressure on the trigeminal nerve that runs through the head and brain. It could also be a side effect of a bone infection or salivary gland stones. You\u2019ll need to call your doctor in order to figure out exactly what\u2019s causing your jaw discomfort as well as the steps you\u2019ll need to take to find relief.<\/p>\n
